We are excited to be offering mould and moisture inspections in the upper North island

The decision to train up and start offering this service came from the frustration of talking to people around NZ who had poor, and often expensive, inspections done on their homes. They were often still confused about the actual state of their home and had no clear path forward.

The starting point was when Marcel went to a clients home with a budget moisture meter, that a local inspector- and their testing- missed. They said everything looked good. Marcel found a massive leak in their shower in about 10 minutes that ended up being a huge source of mould exposure- including stachybotrys. From here, Marcel has trained with InterNACHI, IICRC, American Building Science Acadamey, Building Biology and Ecology Institute, and had mentoring through top USA Indoor Environment Professionals such as Michael Schrantz and Cathy Cooke.

Professional, Honest & Thorough. This is what we aim to be with our home inspections. We know from personal experience how much mould can affect lives- and we want to help NZers navigate the question of "Does my home have a mould problem?"

While testing can be an important part of the process to answer that question, we believe that a thorough inspection of the home is the best place to start.

This includes

• Visual inspection (looking for clues and signs of mould/moisture)
• Moisture testing (using either a pinned moisture meter, or non-invasive meter)
• Thermal imaging
• Obtaining a history of the home and people living in the home

Depending on the size of the home,and the complexity,this process can take between 3-6 hours. From this initial inspection, we can then look at testing to help answer any questions that come up.

Testing we can provide is

• Air sampling (Spore trap testing)- measures airborne mould in a 5 minute sampling time
• Surface sampling (Tape lift samples) can help confirm type and amount of visible mould
• Wall cavity sampling Measures mould within a wall cavity. ie Helps answer, is there hidden mould behind this wall?
• DNA-PCR testing A more accurate way of determining species of mould in a house over a period of time. Can be useful when linking health symptoms to mould (ie.when working with a health practitioner)

Testing isn't perfect, and each test comes with its limitations. However, choosing the right test(s) in the right situations can help provide a clearer picture of the health of the home, and potential health impact on the occupants.
